Product Description
Past Lives and Times in the U.S. Forest Service
Edited by Gilbert W. Davies and Florice M. Frank
This books contains more than 300 stories, letters, poems, biographies and essays from 1891 to
the present. It’s a huge 648 pages cover to cover with 30 old black and white Forest Service
photographs and references to more than 90 specific national forests from 144 contributors.
It’s a book of history - of an agency, a people and the land they took care of. It’s a book that
preserves the wonderful and unusual stories of an agency that consisted of dedicated, strong
willed, brilliant, loyal and courageous men and women.
The stories are often humorous, sometimes tragic and sad, usually dramatic, and frequently
poignant. A few are suspenseful and a handful are unbelievable! The chapters are mostly by
decades and are chronological in order. Many of the stories are from early (and now deceased)
pioneers in the Forest Service. There are dozens of topics and subjects included - from air
tankers to wildlife.
